Cory Whaley, Tenor

Cory R. Whaley has been playing piano since he was 6 years old. In 2015, Cory attended East Carolina University’s School of Music to study Music Education with a focus on voice and piano. He was a member of the ECU Chamber Singers from 2015-2018 and travelled with the group to Varna, Bulgaria to compete in the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing. He was also a member of the Ensemble in Susannah (2016), Four Saints in Three Acts (2016), and Don Giovanni (2017). While at ECU, Cory was the Accompanist and Music Director of West Nash United Methodist Church. In 2019, Cory left East Carolina University to teach private voice and piano in Wilson, NC where he also worked as Music Director for Wilson Arts and ACT! For Youth. In 2021 Cory began working for the Greenville Choral Society as the accompanist for the Youth Chorale. Cory graduated in April 2024 from the University of Mount Olive with his B.S in Piano Performance. During his time at Mount Olive, Cory worked as a Choral Scholar at First Presbyterian Church in Greenville, NC and also served as a substitute pianist and Assistant Director of Children’s Music. Cory is currently about to begin his first year as Choir Director at The Oakwood School in Greenville, NC where he also operates his own private piano and voice studio.
