Michael Pope, Tenor, is a proud Pender County native who grew up singing in church and school choirs, where he discovered his love for vocal music. While in college, Michael continued to nurture his musical passion as a voice major before changing programs to pursue another passion of his, the written word. Michael went on to earn a B.A. and M.A. in English while also participating regularly in collegiate ensembles and choirs.
As a young professional, Michael returned to the Wilmington area in 2006 and began his career as an educator, teaching English on the middle and high school levels. Shortly after his return, he joined the Carolina Vocal Arts Ensemble. Over the next five years of teaching and singing, Michael also met the love of his life and favorite musical partner, his wife, Deborah.
In 2011, Michael moved to Greenville, SC to work as a curriculum writer for an educational publisher. He also had the great privilege of joining the Rivertree Singers and performed with them in various venues throughout the Southeast. While in Greenville, Michael also served as the Worship Director for Suber Road Baptist Church and wrote lyrics for choral works published through Lorenz and Alfred.
Michael is excited to be back home to raise his three sons in Wilmington and to continue educating young minds in the English classroom. He is thrilled to be joining Wilmington Voices, an incredibly talented group of musicians.
